"I love being a writer. What I can't stand is the paperwork." ~ Peter de Vries
This is not a blog about me. At least I hope not. This is a collection of thoughts, words and opinions that may or may not be coherent.
The previous quote by Peter de Vries is one of my favorite, probably because of my wordy conceits but like most quotations it can be bent and stretched by the observer to apply to any situation, or argument, that one is trying to make.
The point in this case is that no one likes paper work, Tax Day looming just over the horizon is proof enough, yet life is made of paperwork. The Commute. The Job. The Same Three Restaurants for Lunch. and you should really go the gym too because the summer's closer than you think and if you're going to fit into that swim suit this year you really need to put in the work you lazy asshole. These are the 10-EZ Forms that we have to fill out everyday.
The paperwork is not something we cherish or remember. Those memories, our first kiss, the vacation through the Caribbean, the time you rented a Pontoon boat that sank on you and you had to be rescued by the lake patrol, these are all moments that stand out of the filing system. Yet none of these are possible with out having done the paperwork.
I'm a man who loves spontaneity and late nights, yet spontaneity works best when you have a safety net. A brace to make you bold. The deviations from the norm are rightly cherished, yet they're only special because they have something to stand out against. You have to put in the work for that brief, bright moment of brilliance.
So on this start of Passover, when Moses really put in the work, take your moment to shine.
But first...fill out form 7B and wait in line. You will be served in the order you arrived.
